The Old Monk

An old monk just walking slow
Head bent forward with face aglow
He shuns all circumstance and pomp
Preferring the innocence of a little child's romp
He speaks with no worldly pretention
But only with Godly intention
His mind full of wisdom
His heart full of prayer
He had a way of being present
So you knew that God was there
He gave his heart to Jesus and left his care
God taught him to hear and not to speak
Anointing him to listen and also to seek
Taught him to count worldly things as loss
And to suffer with Him while carrying the Cross
He lives his life with the end in mind
So that death's cords will not hinder or bind
Thus at The Last Day he will receive his crown
And hear these words spoken,
“Welcome friend, come and sit down.”
