Reflections
Frozen frames of time
Which hang upon our walls
And from our mantles peer,
Or in old boxes laid away
These snippets of our past:
Youth unfading,
Happiness untarnished,
Backward glances at our lives.
Sweet memories of our years
And chronicles of our hearts,
Yet all are bitter sweet
For time, like water
By mortals can not be held
And in its rushing current
We are swept away
‘Till our lives are only ripples
In the hearts of those we loved;
Those frozen frames of our time
Made thus more bitter sweet.
So ponder now the greatest question:
Are we then but mortals
Doomed to fade away,
Or rather made from sterner stuff
Which shall live in Eternal Day?
