Soft November day in the Deep South
Azure blue sky a relaxing backdrop for birds floating
Though many trees are bare there are still some leaves and branches with greenery
The lawn is very sparse and weeds of course dominate
Birds from their nests seem to be scanning a large "growth" at the base of their trees
It is brown and golden and has suddenly appeared
Lizards scamper up and down the trees, swaying their tails and grinning
Golden and yellow butterflies float slowly over the area
I carefully watch the tree and note that the birds are leaving food around the base
WHAT?????
I open my patio door, creamy coffee mug in hand, as the birds whistle chirp
We exchange greetings but they seem to be watching me closely
I talk to the plants and "critters" and walk slowly into the yard
The wind floats my hair and I smile and whistle
Raising my coffee mug to drink, I walk toward the nearest tree
I gently approach the "growth" at the tree base
The "growth" begins to gently shake
I approach and move the grass and bushes
Oh my goodness!!! It is a turkey, looking terrified
Soft clucks from the yard and more turkey appear
Whistle chirping, the birds land around the turkeys
The turkeys stand tall and proud and look at me
I reach slowly toward them and they allow me to pet them
I'll be making a call to my Uncle who has a cattle ranch and lots of extra acres!!!
