Outside In

A smile and a tail up in a tree
White rabbit scurrying with a big watch
Never on time, but always late
And following him down a long dark hole
We find a world that doesn't make sense
Try as we might we can't figure it out
Wisdom seeps in at all the wrong places
A world where time seems to get stretched
And all that we thought is suddenly not
This place where our senses are subtly tricked
Too many thoughts and too many doubts
So we'll lie under a mushroom
And take a quick nap
And when we awake
We'll see where we've been
And with a jolt and a shock we shall know
We've been in this world all of the time
We've just seen in a flash
How much we don't know
So we'll just sit in our chair
And think some deep thoughts
And utter some prayers
As we search for our place
And laugh at the joke
In the little known truth
Of how small and ignorant
We most certainly are!
