Phoenix

Burden heavies on
pressing down, ever down
weight of weary world.
Dirt tasting of ashes
sweat like fiery ice, tracing
fear creeps, overwhelming.

Eyes darting to, fro
heart racing, pounding
too much; way too much.
Seemingly no salvation
beat down to below deep
grave would be step up.

The sting singing, calling
siren song of destruction
beating on and on and on.
No respite, never ending
burden beats ever down
drowning in watery dust.

Sandstorm, fear of flying
empty, nothing left over
debris group and assassinate.
Swallowing dust of death
drowning welcome, re-ceased
eyes slow, blessed rest, amen?

Phoenix from sodden ashes
reborn, escapes former shell
cry of youth, joy, taken flight.
Soaring in crystal, clear blue
alive! oh so alive, bursting
spits dirt, contempt of dust.

Swimming high, oh so high
far above former sandstorm
clouds shimmer with golden sun.
Swooping, playing, aerobatics
flying with pure, innocent joy
victory so sweet, sting defeated.
