It all started many years ago
To be exact, it was the day you were born.
Doc smacked you on the behind
Mama wiped your tears, hoping to see her child grow up strong.
She’d lie for you, cry for you
Swear to God if she had to, she would even die for you.
Now look at you, you’ve grown up a little
You test the water go out on your own.
Its funny how you treated her growing up
The world owes you nothing; out there you’re on your own.
But mama is still there for you
Even though you push her back against the wall.
When troubles of the world fell upon you
Mama you could always call.
But as time goes on, you get older
And all she’s done to raise you starts to fade.
Never thought of coming back
To thank the tree that gave you shade.
She gave you food; she gave you clothes
She put shoes on your feet
If there ever came a time, you went back home
She made sure you had a place to sleep.
A good mother looks past the worst
She always hopes for the best.
All she’s done to raise you from a child
Hopefully you’re ready to face life’s biggest tests.
Sure it hurts
But she knows she must let go.
She hopes and prays that what she’s taught you
Will help you with what you don’t know.
