Christmas Eve

Snow glistens in the foggy moonlight horse stamping,
draws the jingling sleigh.
Late December evening frosted with ice
in joyous anticipation of Christmas day.

Moon full, cold, and hidden by cloud
they streak and define the eerie sky.
Voices joyous with carols of the season
stalk, float over the moor to pass us by.

Parents up late in the eve,
playing Santa hug as the carolers song is briefly caught.
They tuck away the last minute lovelies
spread the floor with presents they've bought.

Candies, cookies, gifts,
all is in place as the moon spills in iced window pane.
Before the fire that warms,
makes a home lay the Bible that gifts each year the same.

Children dreaming, fidget as they sleep
loving parents smile, embrace at the door.
Christmas that will be remembered fondly shared with family,
centered on the Lord.

Day is finally over, preparations complete sleighs disappearing in the fog,
out of sight.
All is calm,
ready to celebrate His birthday snow glistens in the foggy moonlight.
